Crochet saved my life

When I say crochet saved my life, it's not an exaggeration. It's one of those nights again when I woke up from chronic pain. I suffered an injury that leads to chronic pain and life-long maintenance just days before my wedding. It's been three years, and it's still traumatic for me to talk about it. I still can't watch my wedding video even today.

But life has to move on; I think when you get a life-changing injury, there's lots of "why me?" and replaying of events in your head - thinking that if one thing has gone differently, maybe this wouldn't have happened. I became mentally paralyzed for weeks. It's that feeling when you just want to lay on the floor and do nothing.

God still has some grace for me and let me find crochet as it was the only thing that helped me out of that dark place. I feel like I finally found joy again when I started my first few amigurumi projects. Crochet is very kind. I don't know if there has been any formal research regarding the mental health benefits of crochet, but I suspect it has the same mechanism that Tetris has for EMDR therapy (I'll write an article about that soon).

Besides crochet, my husband has also been my rock during those hard times. I can't say how grateful I am for his love and support. Even though the incident was unfortunate, it changed my perspective on a lot of things (money, health, and life in general).

I strive to be kind like crochet every day. To my readers, it's fate that you've read this article, and I just want to let you know that whatever you're going through, stay kind to yourself, try your best and you will be okay because you are strong. Life is tough, but you are tougher.

Love you, stay safe, and crochet on,

~Your fellow loopies
